Collagenesis for acne
What is Collagenesis? How does it work? What can it do for you?
One of the most devastating side-effects of acne is the scarring left as acne pustules resolve, heal and often reoccur. This gives your skin an uneven appearance with "holes" where the pustules were and a raised area around these where the skin has thickened.
While microdermabrasion lifts off the very top dead skin layers and laser skin resurfacing goes deeper to lift the whole epidermis down to raw skin. Collagenesis works quite differently. Tiny needles are used under local anaesthetic to create minute holes in the skin and allow medication to penetrate the skin. The effect of this needling and medication causes collagen production and smoothing of acne scars and fine wrinkles.
Who can benefit from collagenesis?
Virtually anybody of any age who has acne scarring can benefit from CIT (Collagenesis Induction Therapy) collagenesis.
What happens in a typical treatment? How will you feel during treatment?
Treatment requires local anaesthesia and some sedation may be required for large areas.
How will you feel and look after the treatment? When will you see results? What do you need to do after the treatment to ensure the best result?
The skin in the treated area will be bruised, red and swollen but will heal very quickly because no surface skin has been removed.
Within a week the skin will have largely recovered and the process complete within 3-4 weeks. Makeup may be applied within 3 days.
How many sessions are necessary?
This depends on the doctor's diagnosis but we usually recommend 1-3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart for the best results. Results from individual treatment sessions are dependent on skin type and intensity of treatment.
While this information is intended to give you a good overall picture of how collagenesis may help your acne scars, your situation is unique. The best way to find out if this is the right answer for you is to come and see us. There are no sales pitches and we will explain all the options and help you to make the right decision.

How much does it cost?
We understand you are curious to know how much the procedure you are thinking of having might cost.
The truth is that with many procedures your cost can fall within a fairly wide range. While we do offer online consultations for liposuction we believe it is unethical to give a cost estimate without gaining a proper understanding of your needs.
Your body, your skin and your expectations are different to anybody else's. Some patients have been attracted by an initial quote only to find the final price was a lot higher. Sometimes these initial estimates do not cover such elements as theatre fees or the cost of an anaesthetist for example.
Our philosophy is simple. We want you to be fully informed, we want you to understand all your options and have one accurate price quoted once. Over more than 20 years of cosmetic practice we have found that this is what most of our clients want too.
