Mesotherapy for Cellulite
What is Mesotherapy? What can it do for you?
Although Mesotherapy is relatively new here in Australia it has been very widely practised in Europe for over 20 years and has a huge clinical database there.
Mesotherapy is a relatively low cost, non surgical, virtually painless injection procedure used mostly to correct problem areas of cellulite. These are usually specific areas on the thighs, buttocks and arms. Mesotherapy is also very effective as a contouring treatment with the ability to thin or reshape fat deposits in problem areas such as "love handles", abdomen, thighs, arms, face and neck. Where deeper injection techniques are used for fat reduction the technique is called injection lipolysis or lipodissolve.
The active ingredients can include various vitamins, antioxidants and medicines and a naturally occurring substance called Phosptatidyl Choline that is responsible for breaking down fats in our body. Because this mimics what is actually happening in the body there are minimal side-effects.
How does Mesotherapy work?
Mesotherapy stimulates the body's circulatory, lymphatic and immune system to create a biological response that promotes your body's elimination of fat in the treated area.
Who can benefit from Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is an effective treatment for cellulite and localised fat deposits. The ideal candidate for Mesotherapy is someone in good health who is within 10kg (25 lb) of their ideal body weight but who has some stubborn areas of fat that have not responded to exercise.
Almost anyone between the ages of 18 and 75 can be treated but Mesotherapy is not suitable for people who are insulin dependant diabetics, are pregnant or have a history of stroke, blood clots or heart disease.
What happens in a typical treatment? How will you feel during the treatment?
Mesotherapy involves making many tiny injection points just under the skin with a very fine needle in the target area. The composition of what is injected in your case will depend on the doctor's diagnosis and the problem you are trying to correct. Because only a very tiny amount of the medication is injected at each point and the needles are very fine the procedure is not considered painful and most patients report nothing more than the sensation of pinpricks. A typical treatment takes between 20 and 30 minutes.
How will you feel after treatment? What are the potential side-effects?
After treatment you may feel some bruising and some swelling. How severe this is depends on the extent of your treatment. We will always recommend a treatment of an appropriate size so this is usually mild and resolves within a few days.
Potential side-effects include redness, bruising and tenderness in the treated area.
When will you see results?
One of the great things about Mesotherapy is that you see results within a few days. These include a reduction of the visible fat in the area and a smoother skin profile with reduction in the typical dimpling appearance of cellulite.
This is a walk-in walk-out procedure and no dressings are required. From a clinical perspective you can return to work the next day but most people opt to take some time off until initial recovery has taken place.
We would normally see you to monitor your recovery at two days, one week, three weeks and four weeks after the procedure.
How many sessions are necessary?
This depends on the doctor's diagnosis, but we have found the best results are achieved by a number of sessions so impact is low and healing occurs easily between sessions. Because Mesotherapy works with the bodies own systems to eliminate fat, it does take time.
A typical program for cellulite may run as follows:
- 1 session per week for the first month - 4 sessions
- 1 session per fortnight for the second month - 2 sessions
- 1 session monthly for 6 months - 6 sessions
Some follow-up sessions may be required depending on the nature of your issue and medical progress.
While this information is intended to give you a good overall picture of how Mesotherapy may help you for cellulite your situation is unique. The best way to find out if this is the right answer for you is to come and see us. There are no out- of-pocket expenses, no sales pitches and we will explain all the options to you and empower you to make the right decision.

How much does it cost?
We understand you are curious to know how much the procedure you are thinking of having might cost.
The truth is that with many procedures your cost can fall within a fairly wide range. While we do offer online consultations for liposuction we believe it is unethical to give a cost estimate without gaining a proper understanding of your needs.
Your body, your skin and your expectations are different to anybody else's. Some patients have been attracted by an initial quote only to find the final price was a lot higher. Sometimes these initial estimates do not cover such elements as theatre fees or the cost of an anaesthetist for example.
Our philosophy is simple. We want you to be fully informed, we want you to understand all your options and have one accurate price quoted once. Over more than 20 years of cosmetic practice we have found that this is what most of our clients want too.
