What can Fraxel laser treatment do for you? How does it work?
Fraxel is a breakthrough new selective laser treatment for facial rejuvenation.
Because we have followed the development of this new technology overseas and become involved early The Ashley Centre is one of only a handful of Australian clinics to offer this treatment. As a result we have also built up considerable experience in its use.
Fraxel has three key benefits:
- It allows pinpoint treatment of old, diseased or damaged skin cells without affecting surrounding areas of healthy skin.
- While Fraxel can treat clients of all skin colours in particular it enables clients with darker complexions to have pigmentation treated effectively and safely.
- Because Fraxel only targets a relatively small part of your overall skin area (pin points at a time) healing takes place more quickly than if the whole surface area was affected.
The Fraxel Laser produces thousands of tiny laser beams that are very fine but penetrate deeply into the dermis. They reach into this middle layer of skin, remove damaged areas and prompt the growth of fresh healthy skin in their place.
You can see from the results of Fraxel treatment that the treated area recovers and blends in with healthy areas of skin for a consistent overall effect.
Who can benefit from Fraxel laser treatment?
Fraxel is effective for a wide range of people and skin problems. It can help correct uneven skin colouring, brown spots from ageing and sun damage, acne scarring and fine wrinkles. Fraxel is also effective for people with darker complexions who did not previously have this treatment option.

What happens in a typical treatment?
First your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. Next a local anaesthetic ointment will be applied before the treatment begins.
How will you feel during and after treatment? What are the potential side effects?
As the laser moves over your skin you will feel a prickling sensation. After treatment your skin may feel like it has been slightly sun burnt but this usually resolves after 1-2 hours. Your skin will have a pinkish tone over the next week or so but this is a sign that healing is taking place. There may also be some swelling at this time but this generally passes within 2 or 3 days.
While the action of the Fraxel Laser actually promotes healing and the epidermis starts repairing itself immediately, there may be some changes in it as this healing takes place. Your skin my have a bronze appearance that lasts for 2-14 days depending on the nature of your treatment and may also vigorously exfoliate (peel) as old dead cells are shed and replaced by new younger ones. This is not abnormal and using a moisturizer will help.
When will you see results? What do you need to do after the treatment to ensure the best result?
Your skin will start to feel and look different after your first treatment. Moisturizing the skin, avoiding the sun, and scratch avoidance are important for healing.
How many sessions are necessary?
This depends on the doctor's diagnosis but we usually recommend 1-3 treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart for the best results.

How much does it cost?
We understand you are curious to know how much the procedure you are thinking of having might cost.
The truth is that with many procedures your cost can fall within a fairly wide range. While we do offer online consultations for liposuction we believe it is unethical to give a cost estimate without gaining a proper understanding of your needs.
Your body, your skin and your expectations are different to anybody else's. Some patients have been attracted by an initial quote only to find the final price was a lot higher. Sometimes these initial estimates do not cover such elements as theatre fees or the cost of an anaesthetist for example.
