Sun damage is one of the most common conditions we are asked to treat at the Ashley Centre.
The sun damages our skin in several ways:
- UV radiation damages the DNA in your skin cells and they are unable to replace themselves normally, instead they replicate as abnormal precancerous or cancerous cells.
- This damage can result in pitting, lining and thickening of your skin. There is a reduction of blood supply and supply of nutrients to the affected areas.
- This damage reduces your skin's elasticity and hence makes you develop more facial lines.
- Abnormal discolouration, brown spots and patches as well as crusty skin, small blood vessels and redness can develop.
While we love our outdoor environment here in Australia the result is that most of us have sun damage and often learn late how to control our exposure to the sun for the sake of our skin health.
